What is Pelvic Floor Physical Therapy (PFT)?
It was pelvic floor physical therapy that helped me to identify what was causing my pelvic pain and how to control.
To be honest, it was the pelvic floor therapists that truly diagnosed me and got me help.
Pelvic floor therapy is definitely not your average PT.
I don’t think people realize that It can be hard on the ego and emotionally tolling at times.
This is because it usually involves some up close and personal one on one treatment time that can make you feel extremely vulnerable.
I was lucky enough to have several amazing pelvic floor therapists that made the process for me as easy as possible.
Pelvic floor physical therapy focuses on reducing myofascial pelvic pain as well as symptoms of other conditions caused by pelvic floor problems: urinary and fecal incontinence, painful intercourse, and sexual dysfunction.
Therapy consists of specially trained physical therapist performing external and internal manipulations of the pelvic floor muscles with their hands or use of certain tools.
Internal manual manipulation as well as external treatments are involved.
In my experience, good PTF involves looking at the whole body and finding and fixing some of the underlying conditions that may be contributing or causing your pelvic pain.
Good pelvic floor therapy helps you learn how to manage your pelvic floor as a lifestyle.
I want to say thank you to the pelvic floor therapists that helped me in my journey to recovery.
